Investigator Initiated Trials

Overview

ACADIA is committed to supporting investigator initiated trials (IIT) with the goal of improving patient's health and quality of life by increasing the medical and scientific knowledge around pimavanserin. An IIT may be a clinical or non-clinical study for which ACADIA provides funding, drug product, or both. For clinical studies, our particular focus is research in trials that evaluate outcomes in adult patients with central nervous system disorders treated with pimavanserin. Requests outside of this area will not be considered. We support programs that will:

  • Contribute knowledge to the medical and scientific community;
  • Address unmet needs; and
  • Be communicated in an appropriate scientific forum, including peer-reviewed publications.

Examples of appropriate requestors of IIT support include, but are not limited to:

  • Healthcare providers
  • Members of the scientific community
  • Healthcare institutions
  • Colleges and universities
  • Government research institutions

Process

ACADIA utilizes a three-step IIT submission process. After each submission step, the review committee will evaluate the proposed trial to determine whether to request additional details. The process and submission requirements for a clinical study are outlined below (note: pre-clinical and retrospective studies have a slightly abbreviated process):

1. Concept submission
  • Summary of concept
  • Scientific basis/rationale
  • Primary objectives
  • Primary endpoints
  • Estimated study duration
  • Estimated number of patients
  • Are there additional countries for this project?
  • Type of support (product, funding, product and funding)
  • Describe support
2. Proposal submission
  • Hypothesis
  • Secondary objectives
  • Inclusion criteria
  • Exclusion criteria
  • Secondary endpoints
  • Treatment regimen
  • Sample size justification
  • Budget
  • Product request
3. Protocol submission
  • Upload full protocol
  • Upload W-9
  • Upload detailed budget
